The city of Golden Temple, saints & affectionate people. It is the legacy of fourth Sikh Guru Sahib- Guru Ramdas Ji, he laid the foundation stone of Chak Ramdas or Ramdas Pur, now called as Amritsar, which literally means "Pool of Nectar".

Golden Temple, the religious building important to Sikhs has a legacy associated with it. The Amrit Sarovar or pool of nectar has long been associated with Indian legends and Lord Ramas twin sons had supposedly been taught the Ramayana here. How the land was acquired for the construction of the temple has many stories. Some say the Guru bought it, others say it was granted by emperor Akbar. Whatever the story, it is certain the religious building important to Sikhs was built on a revenue free land.

The city is famous for its culinary delicacies like multi-layered prathas, bhatura channa, tandoori kulchas, puris, jam, marmalades, sharbat, rabri & lassi. Other delicacies include satpuras, samosas, fried fish,seekh kabab, mutton tikka, barbecued chicken and spicy pickles.
The celebrated papad and vadian from Amritsar have become the subject of many a rhymes and jingles, Amritsaris have a sweet tooth for pinnis, balushahis and gur ka halwa.
