In spite of Adimalis proximity to the more famous Munnar, there is a world of difference between those two places. Unlike Munnar which thrives on Tourism and the Tea plantations, Adimali banks mainly on Pepper growing in the fertile lands of the hills and valleys around the town.

Anakkara
A town near Kumily, Anakkara has recently acquired significance on its own. The Malanadu Development Society, an institution committed to rural upliftment through spreading rurally oriented technology has its nodal office of Idukki District here. It also runs a milk chilling plant. Anakkara has a high density of Gober-gas plants, which makes fuel and excellent manure from Cow-Dung, again contribution of MDS.

Kattappana
This overcrowded town shows how much can be packed into so little space. The landmark of the town is a magnificent edifice dedicated to Sree Narayana Guru. It is home to Sebastian Joseph Njallani, a semi-literate farmer whose achievement in popularizing the superior variety of Cardamom now known as Njallani developed in his farm, has eclipsed the feats of established Research Organisations.

As such an insignificant little town, Kumilys importance is due to its proximity to the Boat Landing of the Periyar Tiger Reserve or Thekkady, and to its being a border town, with Tamil Nadu just a call away.
Of the tourists of various hues, those obsessed with the diversity of flora and fauna of the Periyar Reserve is a growing and dedicated group.
Thodupuzha
The best of the farmers of Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki district gather here each year usually in January bringing with them the fruit of their best efforts to display and compete. Elephant races are also part of the show.
