Purjan Vihar (Company Garden)
A picturesque garden, laid out during the reign of Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh in 1868 A.D. The garden has an enchanting setting called Shimla which was built by Maharaja Mangal Singh in 1885 A.D. The lush surrounding and the cool shades make it the idyllic visiting spot during summers. A marvellous chhatri with unusual Bengali roof and arches, also known as the Moosi Maharani ki chhatri, is situated here. |  vijay villas mahal | Vijay Mandir Palace
Situated 10-km away from the city this palace is a splendid palace, built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1918 AD. A picturesque lake overlooking the palace makes it a fascinating sight. A fabulous Sita Ram Temple in the palace attracts number of devotees, especially during Ramnavami. While the ground floor has been converted into govt. offices and district courts, upper apartment is presently a museum. Built in 1815 by Maharaja Vinay Singh in the memory of his father, it is a double storey structure on a platform of sandstone. The chatri with unusual Bengali roof and arches is a marvelous monument to see. Also known as Cenotaph of Maharaja Bakhtawar, as one of the names of Bakhtawar Singhs, (wife she carried sati on his funeral pyre) woman of the region visit this place to pay homage to the maharani by pouring holy water over raised sculpted footprints of the royal couple. The interior of the cenotaph displays some fine carvings. Shoes should be removed before entering inside the cenotaph. |  moose maharani ki chatri | City Palace Complex
Below the Fort is the large, imposing City Palace Complex, its massive gates and its tank lined by a beautifully symmetrical chain of ghats with four pavilions on each side and two at each end. Today, most of the complex is occupied by the government offices, but there is a museum house in the former City Palace. To gain the access to the tank and the cenotaph of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh, take the steps on the far left when facing the palace. |  city palace complex | Bala Fort
This huge fort with its ramparts stretching 5-km from north to south and 1.6 kms from east to west stands 304m above the city and 595m above the sea level. One of the very few forts to be constructed before the rise of the Mughal Empire, the Bala Quila (Fort) also predate the time of the Pratap Singh. Babar had spent a night at this fort and took away the hidden treasures to gift to his son, Humayun. Akbar’s son, Jehangir had also stayed here for some time during his exile. The place where he stayed is called Salim Mahal. The fort was finally conquered by Maharana Pratap Singh in 1775 AD. | | Government Museum
The museum has the finest collection of Mughal and Rajput paintings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and some rare ancient manuscripts in Persian, Arabic, Urdu, and Sanskrit. Gulistan (The garden of roses) by Shekh Muslihudin-Sadi, Waqiat-I-Babri (autobiography of the Mughal Emperor Babar) and Bostan (the garden of spring) are some of the notable ones amongst the collection. |  government museum | Vinay Vilas Mahal
The 18th century palace, harmoniously blending the Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture is a must see in the town. This massive fort complex built by Maharaja Vinay Singh has huge gates, tank lined by a beautiful well-formed chain of ghats with pavilions from four side and two at each end. The palace also has one museum in the upper apartments, which is divided into three rooms, seems to be abandoned. But, these rooms have many interesting things to see, which include - furniture’s, clothes, and jeweled weapons, besides many fine collections of Mughal and Rajpur paintings and ancient manuscripts. | | Moti Doongri
Also known as Lansdowne Palace, the Moti Doongri Palace is located on the outskirts of the town on a secluded place. Built in 1882 on a rock, the palace was the main residence of the Maharajas of Alwar and remained so till 1928. The palace was pull down by Maharaja Jai Singh, as he thought of replacing it with a better palace. But his dreams remained unfulfilled, as the ship bringing raw materials from all over Europe sank.
